About us

The 0-13 Wirral CAMHS team is a community based specialist service providing mental health assessments and  evidence based psychological treatments for children and young people with moderate to severe mental health difficulties, up to the age of 14 years.

Our aim is to provide a service that works in partnership with families/carers, is person and family centred and is focused on the needs of the child/young person. We offer assessments and treatment based on goals identified by the family, adopting a multi-agency approach.

The team includes the following staff:

  • Child & Adolescent Mental Health practitioners including nurses, social workers & therapists.
  • Clinical Psychologists
  • Child & Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Team Manager
  • Clinical Coordinator

What we offer

  • What we can help with

    The range of difficulties that can be referred to our service may include:

    • Emotional and behavioural disorders (moderate to severe)- generally for 6 months + duration and/or having significant impact on daily functioning
    • Moderate – Severe Trauma reaction including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and developmental trauma – more than one month after the traumatic event where there is a significant impact on the young person’s functioning.
    • Eating disorders – including anorexia, bulimia and eating disorders not otherwise specified, in partnership with Chester Eating Disorder Service (CHEDS)
    • Anxiety and Depressive symptoms - for example phobias, anxiety, depression, OCD, somatic symptoms where there is a significant impact on daily functioning, is beyond a normal adjustment reaction (i.e. bereavement, loss) and of significant duration.
    • Attachment disorder- having a significant impact on family and social functioning
    • ADHD – where difficulties are mainly home-based and with co-morbid mental health difficulties, in partnership with community paediatrics and the agreed ADHD pathway.
    • ASC - where there are co-morbid mental health difficulties and the child is aged 13+
    • Conduct Disorder and oppositional defiant disorder - with co-morbid mental health concerns
    • Under 5s - with significant behavioural, social or emotional difficulties where previous universal services have not alleviated the difficulties, in partnership with the Health Visitor service.
    • Psychosis –including delusional beliefs, paranoia, deterioration in self-care and social/family functioning, disinhibited behaviour in partnership with Early Intervention in Psychosis Team.
    • Emerging Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder – with significant instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image and mood, and impulsive behaviour.

    • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
    • Psychodynamic psychotherapy
    • Behavioural management & support
    • Family approaches and family therapy
    • Attachment focused interventions such as Theraplay and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)
    • Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming (EMDR) – therapy for trauma
    • Therapeutic consultations with our partner agencies
    • Solution focused brief therapy
