We aim to provide multi-agency and holistic working in a hard to reach group of young people who are part of the Youth Justice System. We have teams in the following areas: West Cheshire, East Cheshire, and South Cheshire and Vale Royal.

Each team consists of a range of professionals including:

  • Registered mental health nurses
  • Occupational therapists
  • Psychologists
  • Speech and language therapists

We have a range of experience that compliments each other including; children’s mental health, adult mental health, secure and non-secure units, mainstream and specialist schools and neurodevelopmental services, allowing us to build a plethora of therapeutic skills and interventions.

Who is the service for?

Young people in the YJS can often lead chaotic lives. They can forget or even avoid appointments, find clinical areas daunting and may not have the support at home to ensure they attend health appointments. Our team works withing the Cheshire Youth Justice Service to work directly with these young people and their families to help reduce criminalisation due to health needs.

There is no strict criteria for a health assessment, we take a screen out process in order to prevent health needs deteriorating and with the hope of improving young people’s opinions and confidence in mental health services as highlighted. The young people we help support stay with us whilst they are part of the Youth Justice Service.

How to access the service

Referrals to this services are direct directly through the youth justice system (law courts).

What will happen at your first appointment?

Your youth justice worker will discuss the referral with you beforehand, and may arrange for one of us to meet you with them for an introduction first if you prefer.

Depending on what your concerns and needs are, we may offer assessment (such as speech and language or sensory assessment) or the appointment may proceed as more of a conversation, getting to know more about you and your needs.

At the end of the first appointment we will discuss what we can offer and formulate a plan with you for what happens next.

Where we are based

We meet with young people at jointly convenient times and bases including at home, community hubs or schools. We arrange appointments and send reminders via phone, letter and through text messages, and we have the flexibility to operate in a way that other health providers cannot (working beyond the traditional 9am-5pm day).
