Most teams are community teams, with some inpatient services for tier four interventions.

The Children and Young People's (CYP) Mental Health Hub is an access service. We aim to ensure that all young people and their families have access to the most appropriate mental health support by working with a high number of CWP, education and community services. There is one team in Cheshire and one in Wirral.

The teams consist of people with a mix of skills including an operational team manager and clinical co-ordinator, clinical nurse specialists, mental health practitioners, mental health workers and CYP psychological wellbeing practitioners.

Underpinning the service is the objective to promote earlier intervention for children and young people when experiencing initial onset of mental health symptoms. We know that long delays in to access support can make mild symptoms worse and recovery difficult. We also strive to ensure that those young people in need of clinical mental health intervention are transferred safely to the most appropriate mental health team with established internal service pathways.

Why should someone join your team?

No day is the same!

We review a wide number of differing mental health presentations from aged 0-18 years therefore the development of mental health knowledge and skillset is a constant. We are a multi-disciplinary team, meaning we have a wealth of different experiences, all of which are as important as the next, to ensure we offer our community a holistic response to their referrals to ensure we have considered all aspects of their challenges.

Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) provide a range of services focused on promoting and supporting the mental health and wellbeing of students and staff in schools. We offer early intervention for mild to moderate mental health concerns, support the development of whole-school approaches to mental health, and provide timely advice and guidance to school staff. We also often facilitate referrals to external specialist services when needed.

MHSTs provide evidence-based interventions for common mental health issues like anxiety, low mood, and behavioural difficulties in children and young people. We have teams in Cheshire and Wirral.

MHSTs typically include education mental health practitioners (EMHPs), mental health practitioners, and other staff like clinical coordinators, clinical leads, and higher-level therapists. EMHPs, for example, are trained to deliver early interventions like low-intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Li-CBT), and work directly with schools, parents, children, and young people to deliver these interventions.

MHST staff are proud of their work because they directly contribute to improving the mental health and well-being of young people, helping them thrive academically and socially.

MHSTs provide easily accessible support and the impact of MHST interventions is often evident in the improved mood, and confidence observed by school staff and parents after an intervention.  We find the work fulfilling as we see first hand the positive impact we can have.

Why should someone join your team?

Working in an MHST offers the chance to make a direct positive impact on the lives of children and young people by providing mental health support within educational settings. MHSTs have three core functions that allow us to have a balance of direct therapeutic work, as well as working with school leaders and staff to create a supportive and positive environment for students and assisting schools in developing a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.

The Wirral team let us know a little more:

The team works hard and tries its best to meet the needs of the young people and their families who access our service. We aim to offer the best evidenced based intervention to suit the young person’s mental health presentation and if we are not able to do this or through assessment and formulation, gain an understanding that a mental health approach is not the most suitable, we link young people in with community services who offer alternative approaches.

And our West Cheshire team informed us:

Our team takes great pride in our resilience and adaptability. We've navigated significant changes, growing alongside the care group and embracing new opportunities in different areas. With new members joining us, our existing staff have warmly welcomed them, fostering a strong sense of unity and collaboration. Through every challenge and transition, our dedication to providing compassionate, high-quality care remains unwavering.

Why should someone join your team?

We support each other and are a friendly and helpful team. The most common quote from team members is ‘this is the best team I have ever worked with’.

Joining our team means becoming part of a dedicated and compassionate group that embodies the Trust’s six core values: Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage, and Commitment. We bring these principles to life every day in our work with young people and their families, as well as in the way we collaborate with one another.

Our supportive and nurturing environment fosters both personal and professional growth, offering regular opportunities for reflection and prioritising staff wellbeing. If you're looking for a team that values its members, works with purpose, and creates a positive, enriching space, then this is the place for you.
