We help children and young people under 18.
We support you if big feelings keep happening and get in the way of life.
This might make it hard to:
- go to school or learn
- make or see friends
- get on with family
- do daily things like washing, eating, or sleeping
These feelings can also slow down how you grow and learn.
We listen to you and your family.
We look at how strong the feelings are and how often they happen.
Then we make a plan with you.
We use types of help that are known to work.
You might have one or more of these:
- Feeling sad most days, and it makes daily life hard
- Feeling very worried or scared most days, and it makes daily life hard
- Doing the same actions or rituals over and over, and they get in the way
- Big problems with trust or closeness that make family life very hard
- Seeing or hearing things that others don’t, or having strong, unusual beliefs; finding self-care and friendships hard. We work with a special early psychosis team for this.
- Eating problems, like not eating enough, losing weight fast, eating a lot and then being sick, or strong worries about body shape
- Strong, lasting stress after a scary event (for more than a month) that makes life hard
- Very strong feelings and mood swings. This might include often hurting yourself or having thoughts about wanting to die. Relationships may feel very up and down, and daily life is badly affected.
Some young people may also have:
- learning disabilities
- ADHD or autism
- be under 5 years old
We treat you and your family with respect.
We try to see you as soon as we can.
We work with you and, if helpful, with your family and other important adults in your life
We give help that fits your age and stage of life.
You can get support from My Mind Children and Young People's Mental Health Services (CYPMHS). This service used to be called CAMHS.
These are experts who know how to help children with their mental health.
Sometimes, we may suggest that help comes from a different team of people, that your family can trust. We will explain why this may be an option.
