Making Communication Clearer
We know how frustrating it can be to wait for an assessment or support, and we’re doing our best to make things smoother. We’ve switched to a new system to manage our waiting list more effectively, so families will get clearer letters and updates. This way, you’ll always know what’s happening and how to reach out if you need us.
A Smoother Pathway Before Assessment
We’re creating a needs-led pre-assessment pathway to help families get the support they need before an assessment. This means:
• Offering advice and guidance earlier, even before an assessment takes place.
• We will be running drop-ins, helplines, webinars, and podcasts to give families easy access to support.
• Working closely with schools and SENCOs to make sure children get the right help at the right time.
Improving the Assessment Process
We believe every child deserves a thorough and meaningful assessment. To make this happen, we’re:
• Piloting integrated assessments for ADHD and autism together.
• Offering joint clinic appointments, so families don’t have to attend multiple separate sessions.
• Providing more consistent reports, written in a way that makes sense for families as well as professionals.
Support After an ADHD Diagnosis
Getting a diagnosis is only the beginning. We’re strengthening our post-diagnosis support, including:
• Follow-up appointments to identify each young person’s key needs.
• Easier access to the ADHD medication pathway, with electronic prescribing being introduced.
• A monthly nurse panel to review complex cases, so children with additional needs get the right care.
Working Together with Families
A key part of these changes is co-production — working with parents, carers, young people, and schools to shape the service. We want to hear what support works best for you, and how we can keep improving.
We are holding two focus groups in October to give you the opportunity to work with us in helping us shape our service, if you’re a parent or carer or young person, please reach out to our Participation & Engagement Team if you want to know more about the focus groups or want to get involved and help shape what comes next.
