This service is available to children and young people aged 6 up to16 years who have received a diagnosis of ADHD and have a GP in Cheshire East.

Submit an online referral to the ADHD medication pathway

Please use the form below to refer to the ADHD medication pathway if your child has already received a diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Your child must be from age 6 up to their 16th birthday and be registered with a GP surgery in Cheshire East.  Their diagnosis does not need to be from Cheshire Wirral Partnership (CWP) in order to refer to this service.

 

There are supply disruptions affecting various strengths of the following medications which are licensed for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD): 

• Methylphenidate:* 

Equasym XL® 10, 20 and 30 mg capsules 

Xaggitin XL® 18 and 36 mg prolonged-release tablets 

Concerta XL® 54 mg prolonged-release tablets 

Xenidate XL® 27 mg prolonged-release tablets 

• Lisdexamfetamine: 

Elvanse® 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 mg capsules 

Elvanse® Adult 30, 50, and 70 mg capsules 

• Guanfacine: 

Intuniv® 1, 2, 3 and 4 mg prolonged-release tablets 

At present, the supply disruptions are expected to resolve at various dates between October and December 2023 

• Atomoxetine: 

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) issued a Medicine Supply Notification in August 2023 for the shortage of atomoxetine capsules. The supply issue with atomoxetine is set to resolve in October 2023. 

The supply disruption of these products is caused by a combination of manufacturing issues and an increased global demand. 

The following medications, also commonly used to treat ADHD, continue to be in good supply.

Methylphenidate immediate release tablet:

  • Tranquilyn
  • Ritalin
  • Medikinet


Methylphenidate (8-hour release):

  • Medikinet XL prolonged release capsules


Methylphenidate prolonged release tablets (12-hour release):

  • Matoride XL
  • Delmosart XL
  • Affenid XL (these can be used as a direct replacement for affected strengths of Concerta Xl, Xenidate XL, Xaggitin XL)
